Letter from Jade Chao to the Segals
March 3, 1999
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Segal:
Although you do not know me personally, I hope I did not intrude by sending you this e-mail on behalf of my dear classmate, Anton. I was also on the SYA program in Rennes, France in 1987.
Anton was an awesome guy. He was always cheery and composed under pressure. I was encouraged by his enthusiasm to make the most of the French experience, and to be challenged by his example. Whether it was on the bus traveling to various parts of Loire, or going to class in that three story building, Anton was generous and kind to his classmates. I just wanted to thank you guys for raising an awesome kid who enriched us greatly by his very presence.
I know nothing will be able to cushion the blow you've suffered, but I still want to try. Please accept my heartfelt sympathies for you and your family.
For the time being, I am in L.A. in my first year of law school. If there is anything you can think I can help with in L.A., please do not hesitate to e-mail me your request.
